KESSLER MEAT

Kessler Meat (PTY) Ltd. was founded in November 2008. An experienced Manager from Germany is now managing it. Our intention is to become market leader in South Africa for quality and efficiency; this will be achieved by implementing the high German Slaughtering standards and methods. This will secure the competiveness and profitability of the company.

We will build the optimal production chain for value added meat products, starting with feeding, slaughtering, deboning, processing, marketing and wholesale and retail distribution. The entire product chain will be the main feature of the company.

1. Location

Brits, is a modern, developing town surrounded by fragrant citrus groves. Brits, also plays an important role in the South African mining industry. Brits can be reached by the national route R511 or R512 and is connected by the N4 National Route directly to Pretoria – a distance of 54 km and 83 km to Johannesburg.

These two big cities have a population of over 35 Million inhabitants and provide potentially high demand for our food products. There is enormous potential for Premium German sausage specialties and European style deli products.

2. Project Dimension

Brits Abattoir is a solid base slaughterhouse and has a constant supply of cattle and pigs. The slaughterhouse's output will increase from 50 to 200 cattle. The reintroduction of lamb slaughtering and the dissection and de-boning unit and the development of the retail and wholesale meat business are also planned. The company has an ideal location and receives most of its supplies from local farms and feedlots.

The Germany manager is a German master of butchery and has a wide range of experience in the European food industry. He will acquire international standard certificates and the appropriate CE production certificate for the production, so that lucrative European customers can be acquired for the high value beef.

Future developments will include MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) Line for self-service meat products, the integration of premium German sausages, such as the famous “Bratwurst” and the realization of a fish based sausages. One of the specifics of this Synergy is the bringing together of specific food industry production know how.

3. Current Status

The abattoir was purchased in autumn 2008 and is currently operated by Kessler Meat (PTY) Ltd.

In the first year in operation, the abattoir has become upgraded to reach international production standards. The hygiene assessment rating from the provincial authority marked Kessler Meat with 96,97% (of 100%) which means excellent!

In September 2009, Kessler Meat got the reward from the department of agriculture, conservation and rural development as the third best red Meat Abattoir in the whole North West Province in 2008/2009.

In 2009 18'205 cattle were slaughtered. This is an increase of 530% in comparison to 2008. Also 40'000 pigs and 7'000 lambs had been slaughtered in the same period. The budget figures have clearly been excellend.
