Potential homeowners are offered a unique design characteristic to the combination of innovative materials and manufacturing methods that enable homes to be fully assembled and occupied in 6 to 10 days.
The concept is a “do-it-yourself” and it allows the units to be assembled on any terrain, primarily in Africa and other locations around the world.

1. Location

House in a Can is located in Pretoria and was founded on 1 April 2007. The entire house is manufactured under ideal conditions in a factory with professional supervision.

2. Project Dimension

Key Points:

The houses can be supplied as either, one two or three bedrooms from 56.5 to 88 sqm and cost 13,693 to 26,648 Euros.
There is a consistent supply of the innovative material used in the construction, as opposed to the traditional materials which are in short supply and thus contribute to long construction turnaround time and high costs.
The need of skilled labor is eliminated. The ongoing shortage of skilled labor results in poor quality workmanship as well as resulting in long construction turnaround time.
The final product meets all the requirements of statutory and industry control bodies, such as those of the Agrément Quality Certification, South African Bureau of Standards and a Rational Structural Enrolement Certification issued by the NHBRC. The production also meets following local and international standards: ISO 9000; ISO 9001; ISO 14001; fire, acoustic and electricity certification;
The company is a registered member of the NHBRC (National Home Builders Registration Council)

Homeowners can enhance the basic living space unit with minimal disruption to the original structure, by simply adding extra assembled units as and when their finances and circumstances allow.

As all the components required are precision-manufactured in a factory, using accurate machinery and according specific architectural drawings, every unit assembled is of the same high quality. All of the unit’s components delivered to the customer’s site in one 40-foot lockable container and are housed in crates, which remain on site after off-loading until the unit is fully erected.

3. Current Status

The production of the houses in China have moved in May 2009 to a new factory, so it allows the production of 1 250 units per month. The production is being increased to 15 000 houses in a year.

HIAC has signed 11 contracts for the construction of clinics in South Africa. The construction of the first clinic has already started. The complete order Volume of the clinics is 9 Million ZAR.
